Castlebar Town Council is committed to ensuring that this website achieves "Double-A" conformance with the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0. This means that every page will comply with all checkpoints in the top 2 priorities of WCAG 1.0, to comply with the National Disability Authority's Code of Practice on Accessibility of Public Services and Information Provided by Public Bodies. The National Disability Authority's Centre for Excellence in Universal Design has an introduction to policy and legislation relevant to Universal Design in Ireland.

Castlebar Town Council is committed to ensuring that accessibility will feature in any future procurement requests for 3rd-party systems or upgrades to existing systems.
Statement of the website's conformance with official accessibility guidelines
Most of our website conforms to WCAG 1.0 "Level AA" and meets many WCAG 1.0 and 2.0 "Level AAA" checkpoints. The most recent accessibility audit for this website took place during its build from Q4 2008 until its Q2 2010 launch.
Areas for improvement and time-lines
We are aware of some areas on the website where accessibility can be improved. We are currently working to achieve this. We hope that this website will achieve "Double-A" conformance with the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0 by the end of Q4 2010.

| eAgenda System | While our online Meeting and Agenda system (eAgenda) is itself Accessible, it uses documents provided in non-Accessible formats (ex. Word and PDF documents which are not in Accessible formats). This will be an ongoing challenge as meeting documents are not available until the statutory 3 days before meetings take place and come from a variety of sources--many outside the control of Ballina Town Council (ex. national and international agencies, think tanks, statutory agencies, community and voluntary groups, firms, etc.). |
