Planning Application Guidance

Planning permission is need for any development of land or property unless the development is specifically exempted from this need. Development includes the carrying out of works (building, demolition, alteration) on land or buildings and the making of a material (i.e. significant) change of use of land or buildings.

These Guidance Notes have been prepared by Castlebar Town Council to assist you in making a Planning Application. These Guidance Notes are intended to be a practical guide and do not purport to be a legal interpretation of Planning Law. The law governing the Planning system is contained in the Planning and Development Act 2000 and the Planning and Development Regulations 2001, 2002, 2003and 2007. Please note that the law may be updated at any time. Castlebar Town Council is the Planning Authority for the town of Castlebar.
