Housing Schemes and Services
Local Authority Housing - Local authorities are the main providers of housing for people who are in need of housing and who cannot afford it from their resources.
Tenant Purchase Scheme - If you have been a tenant of a local authority house for at least one year, you may apply to the local authority from which you rent your house to purchase it either outright. If you are a tenant for over 10 years you may apply for Tenant Purchase Scheme for Long-Standing L.A Tenants
Housing Grant Schemes - From 1st November 2007 the Disabled Persons Grant and Essential Repair Grant have been replaced by the following 3 new grant schemes - Mobility Aids Housing Grant, Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability and Housing Aid for Older People.
Differential Rent Scheme - Rents in Castlebar Town Council Houses are based on the Housing Differential Rent Scheme. This means that the rent is based on your ability to pay, so if your income is low, your rent will be low; and if your income increases, so will your rent. The income of any other members of your household will be added to the rent calculation and there may be deductions for any children in your family. This is reviewed on an annual basis to ensure that rents charged by the Castlebar Town Council Council contribute adequately towards the cost of the maintenance and management of its Housing Stock.
Anti-Social Behaviour Strategy - Castlebar Town Council adopted an Anti-Social Behaviour Strategy 21st June 2011
