Civic Reception accorded to An Taoiseach Enda Kenny (Castlebar Town Council Offices, Marsh House, Castlebar)
13th May 2011 @ 7.00pmCivic Reception accorded to An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
Castlebar Town Council is pleased to mark the election of Enda Kenny as Taoiseach of Ireland by awarding him our highest accolade - a formal Civic Reception.
In doing so the Council is acknowledging the high esteem in which Mr Kenny is held by the people of his native town. We are delighted that ll of his hard work has been recognised by the electorate and proud that he has attained the most powerful political office in the country. We are comforted in the knowledge that he will use that pwer with wisdom, effectiveness and fairness.
It is no surprise to the people of Castlebar that Mr Kenny has reached such heights. He is a member of one of the town's most respected families. Along with his late father, Henry, and his brother Henry, his family has an unblemished record of 70 years in public life.
Throughout his long political career Mr Kenny has displayed practical patriotism through service to the public. This been exemplified by leadership of his community, his county and his country. He has provided a model for all through his dedication, determination, vision, honesty and dedicated self sacrifice.
At a time when respect for politicians has been damaged by so many concerned with self advancement and self enrichment, his election as Taoiseach is clear vindication of honesty and decency in public life. It marks the beginning of the restoration of the profession of politics to is rightful status.
As representatives of Mr Kenny's home town we are privileged to share this joyous occasion with his mother Eithne, sister Maria, brothers Henry, John and Kieran. We wish Mr Kenny well in the many difficult challenges he will face. We especially wish Enda, Finnuala, Aoibhinn, Ferdia and Naoise good health and happiness during his term as Taoiseach for many years afterwards.
