HOCHSTADT, GERMANY

Castlebar is twinned with Hochstadt in Germany.

Erlangan-Hochstadt is a district in Baveria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the sough and clockwise) the districts of Furth, Neustadt (Aisch)-Bad Windscheim, Bamberg, Forchheim and Nurnberger Land, and by the cities of Nurembury and Erlangen.

The twinning accord between Castlebar and Houchstadt in Germany was signed on 24th September 2000. This has been a very fruitful twinning where the stated aims of developing a better understanding between citizen on political, cultural, educational, economic and sporting levels have and continue to be realised in the friendships forged and the connections made between the people of both towns.

In 2010 Castlebar and Hochstadt celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Twinning.

AURAY, FRANCE

Castlebar is twinned with Auray in Britanny, France

Auray is a beautiful historical town, nestling at the end of a ria. Its small St. Goustan Port is particularly picturesque. Auray is built on the shores of River Loch, not far from the famous religious sanctuary of Sante-Anne-d'Auray. It is a pretty town because of his harbour, its view while walking around the Loch, and its old town quarter of St. Goustan with its historical houses dating from the 15th century. The town is famous in the history of Brittany, because of the battle which took place underneath its wall, which put an end to the War of Succession.

PEEKSKILL, NEW YORK, USA

Castlebar established formal friendship and 'sister city' relationship with Peekskill, New York in March 2000. Peekskill is a city in Westchester County, New York. It is situated on a bay along the east side of the Hudson River, across from Jones Point.

This community was known to be an early American Industrial Centre, primarily for its iron plow and stove products. The Binney & Smith Company, now makers of Crayola products, stated as the Peekskill Chemical Company at Annsville in 1864. Peekskill's manufacturing base operated well into the late 1900's with the Fleischmann Company making yeast by-products under the Standard Brands corporate name.

The population is 22,441 according to the year 2000 census. Peekskill has drawn a number of artists and art appreciators to its environs recently. Local highlights include Paramount Centre for the Arts, a theater which regularly screens independent films. Other highlights include the Hudson Valley Centre for Contemporary Art, and the Peekskill Coffee House, which showcases local arts.

DIXON, ILLINOIS, USA

Castlebar is a sister city of Dixon, Illinois, USA. In August 2005, Dixon Sister Cities Association delegates, along with Mayor Jim Burke travelled to Castlebar to sign the sister city charter. Dixon is located along the banks of the Rock River. 100 miles west of Chicago. Major State and U.S highways pass through the city and an Interstate Highway is located on the edge of town.

Dixon is a city in Lee County, Illinois, USA. The population was 15,941 as of the 2000 census. Namfed for its founder, John Dixon (Dixon's Ferry), it is the county seat of Lee County. Located on the Rock River, Dixon was the boyhood home of former U.S President Ronald Reagan.
